New York

New York, United States of America: 7 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Seven ecoregions reach New York and five are in the Nature Imperiled tier. The Northeastern Hardwoods cover the Adirondacks and the north, the Eastern Great Lakes lowland forests the north and west, the Southern Great Lakes forests the far west, the Allegheny Highlands forests the southern tier, the Appalachian-Blue Ridge forests the southeast, the Northeastern Coastal Forests the Hudson valley and the city, and the Atlantic coastal pine barrens hold Long Island. That is a wide spread for one state, and the Adirondacks and Long Island sit at opposite ends of it in season length, soil and salt. A New York plant list that works statewide does not exist, and the ecoregion links below are the faster route to a local one.
