New Jersey
New Jersey, United States of America: 5 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Five ecoregions reach New Jersey, a lot for its size. That explains why its regions feel so unlike each other. The Northeastern Coastal Forests and Mid-Atlantic US coastal savannas cover the east and shore, the Atlantic coastal pine barrens hold the south, and the northwest rises into the Northeastern Hardwoods and the Appalachian-Blue Ridge forests. Three are in the Nature Imperiled tier. The Pine Barrens are the remarkable one, a large fire-adapted sand system inside the most densely populated state, with a flora including plants found almost nowhere else nearby. Gardening there means acidic sand and accepting what likes it, which is a different project from the richer soil in the northern counties.
