Maryland
Maryland, United States of America: 5 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Five ecoregions reach Maryland, which is a lot for its size and matches how different its ends feel. The Mid-Atlantic US coastal savannas and Northeastern Coastal Forests cover the Eastern Shore and the bay country, the Southeast US conifer savannas reach the southern edge, and the west rises through the Appalachian-Blue Ridge forests into the Appalachian mixed mesophytic forests. Three of the five are in the Nature Imperiled tier. Practically, Maryland runs from tidewater to mountains in about three hours, and the planting changes with it: salt tolerance and sandy soil near the bay, a full hardwood understory in the western counties.
