State or province
Texas
Texas, United States of America: 12 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Twelve ecoregions reach Texas, more than any other state in the lower forty-eight, and they cross five biomes. The Chihuahuan desert and Tamaulipan mezquital cover the west and the south, the Piney Woods and East Central Texas forests the east, and a broad band of grasslands runs through the middle: the Western shortgrass prairie, Central-Southern US mixed grasslands, Cross-Timbers savanna-woodland, Edwards Plateau savanna and Texas blackland prairies. The Western Gulf coastal grasslands hold the coast, the Arizona Mountains forests reach the far west mountains, and the Sierra Madre Oriental pine-oak forests come up from Mexico. Six are in the Nature Imperiled tier. No statewide plant list is meaningful here. East Texas is humid pine forest and West Texas is desert.
