Aucune espèce de syrphe n'est inscrite en vertu de la loi américaine sur les espèces en voie de disparition, et la famille dans son ensemble est répandue et commune. Des études signalent que la diversité et le nombre d'espèces spécialistes chutent fortement dans les zones d'utilisation intensive des terres, de sorte que l'absence d'inscriptions officielles peut en partie refléter un manque de recherche plutôt qu'une absence de menaces.
