Ontario

Ontario, Canada: 7 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Seven ecoregions reach Ontario and the province spans from Carolinian forest to subarctic coast. The Southern Great Lakes forests and Eastern Great Lakes lowland forests cover the populated south, and both are in the Nature Imperiled tier. Through the middle run the Eastern Canadian Forest-Boreal transition and the Western Great Lakes forests, and the north is boreal, the Central Canadian Shield forests, Midwest Canadian Shield forests and Southern Hudson Bay taiga reaching James Bay. Nearly all Ontario gardening happens in the southern band, which is the most reduced part of the roster and also the mildest ground in the province. Native trees and understory from that band do more ecological work here than their footprint suggests.
