Alberta
Alberta, Canada: 9 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Nine ecoregions reach Alberta and they sort from boreal north to prairie south. The Mid-Canada Boreal Plains forests, Midwest Canadian Shield forests, Northern Canadian Shield taiga and Muskwa-Slave Lake taiga cover the north. Through the middle run the Canadian Aspen forests and parklands, which are in the Nature Imperiled tier. The south holds the Northern Shortgrass prairie and the Montana Valley and Foothill grasslands, and the Rocky Mountain edge carries the Northern Rockies conifer forests and the Alberta-British Columbia foothills forests. The aspen parkland belt is where most Albertans live and garden, and it is the most converted of the nine. Prairie and parkland natives suit it, and they handle the wind and the sudden thaws better than most imports.
