Landscape and climate

Seventeen ecoregions reach British Columbia, the widest roster of any US state or Canadian province. They cover four biomes. The coast holds the British Columbia coastal conifer forests, Central Pacific Northwest coastal forests and Queen Charlotte Islands conifer forests. The interior carries the Fraser Plateau and Basin conifer forests, Central British Columbia Mountain forests, Okanogan dry forests and North Cascades conifer forests. The north is boreal, with the Muskwa-Slave Lake taiga, Northern Cordillera forests and Watson Highlands taiga, and the high country adds tundra. The Palouse prairie reaches the southern interior. The practical point is that British Columbia contains rain forest, dry interior valleys and arctic conditions at once, and the province name tells you nothing useful about which one you are in.
