La suimanga grande de doble collar (Cinnyris afer, Linnaeus 1766) es un ave paseriforme de 14 cm de la familia Nectariniidae, residente en el sur, el este y el noreste de Sudáfrica, en Esuatini y en el este de Lesoto. El macho adulto es inconfundible: verde metálico iridiscente en la cabeza, la garganta y el dorso, con una ancha banda pectoral escarlata separada del verde por un estrecho borde azul metálico. Se alimenta sobre todo de néctar, sondeando flores tubulares y acopadas en el fynbos, los bordes de bosque, los matorrales de montaña y los jardines; complementa su dieta con fruta y, sobre todo durante la cría, con insectos y arañas. Como visitante habitual de géneros polinizados por aves como Aloe, Erythrina, Tecoma y Leonotis, actúa como vector incidental de polen en toda su área y es una especie muy fácil de atraer al jardín allí donde se cultivan plantas nativas sudafricanas ricas en néctar.

Distribución
Limitada a Sudáfrica, Esuatini (antes Suazilandia) y el este de Lesoto. La subespecie C. a. afer ocupa el sur del Cabo Occidental y el suroeste del Cabo Oriental; la subespecie C. a. saliens se distribuye en una amplia franja desde las provincias de Limpopo y Mpumalanga, a través de KwaZulu-Natal, el oeste de Esuatini y el este de Lesoto, y hacia el sur por la costa hasta el Cabo Oriental. Principalmente residente; parcialmente migratoria en el noreste de su área. Ausente del árido interior del Karoo y de los países al norte de Esuatini.
