Yukon
Yukon, Canada: 11 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Eleven ecoregions reach Yukon, divided between boreal taiga and mountain tundra. The Interior Alaska-Yukon lowland taiga covers the central basin, with the Northwest Territories taiga, Muskwa-Slave Lake taiga, Watson Highlands taiga and Northern Cordillera forests filling out the forested ground. The mountains carry the Ogilvie-MacKenzie alpine tundra, Interior Yukon-Alaska alpine tundra, Arctic foothills tundra, Alaska-St. Elias Range tundra, Brooks-British Range tundra and the Pacific Coastal Mountain icefields and tundra. None is in the Nature Imperiled tier. The central valleys around Whitehorse and the Yukon River are where growing is practical, helped by very long summer daylight that partly offsets a season measured in weeks rather than months.
