Nunavut

Nunavut, Canada: 7 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Seven ecoregions reach Nunavut and five of them are tundra. They are the Canadian High Arctic tundra, Canadian Middle Arctic Tundra, Canadian Low Arctic tundra, Davis Highlands tundra and Torngat Mountain tundra. The remaining two are taiga, the Northern Canadian Shield taiga and the Southern Hudson Bay taiga, reaching the mainland south. None is in the Nature Imperiled tier. This is the largest and least converted roster in the country, and it is also the hardest to garden in by a wide margin. The growing season is measured in weeks, permafrost is near the surface almost everywhere, and the plants that succeed are low, slow and adapted to hold their ground rather than to grow quickly.
