Répartition
Sédentaire dans les montagnes de l'ouest de l'Amérique du Nord, de l'intérieur de la Colombie-Britannique et de l'Alberta vers le sud à travers les Rocheuses, le Grand Bassin et la Sierra Nevada jusqu'en Basse-Californie, surtout en forêt de pin ponderosa, de douglas, de sapins vrais et de pin tordu. Certains oiseaux descendent en altitude lors des hivers rigoureux.
