Distribución
Residente en las montañas del oeste de América del Norte, desde el interior de Columbia Británica y Alberta hacia el sur por las Rocosas, la Gran Cuenca y Sierra Nevada hasta Baja California, sobre todo en bosques de pino ponderosa, abeto de Douglas, abetos verdaderos y pino contorta.
