Mozambique: 10 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Savanna woodland is the ruling vegetation of Mozambique. Of its ten Afrotropic ecoregions, the largest are the Central Zambezian wet miombo and Dry miombo woodlands, joined by Zambezian mopane woodlands, the Zambezian-Limpopo mixed woodlands, and the Limpopo lowveld - all tropical grassland and savanna biomes built around a strong wet-dry seasonal rhythm. The coast adds the Maputaland and Southern Swahili coastal forests and woodlands, both imperiled, plus the Zambezian coastal flooded savanna, while the Nyanga-Chimanimani Montane forest-grassland and Southern Rift Montane forest-grassland rise along the western borders. Gardening here means working with pronounced dry seasons: fire- and drought-tolerant woodland trees and grasses suit most of the country, with moister coastal-forest conditions confined to the seaboard and cooler montane pockets inland.
