Angola

Angola: 14 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Miombo defines Angola: the Angolan wet miombo woodlands, Central Zambezian wet miombo woodlands, and Dry miombo woodlands together dominate its fourteen ecoregions, all tropical grassland and savanna at heart. The Congolian coastal forests and two forest-savanna mosaics mark the humid north, while the southwest drops through Angolan mopane woodlands and the scarp savanna into the Namibian savanna woodlands and the fog-fed Kaokoveld desert on the coast. Zambezian flooded grasslands and a small pocket of Angolan montane forest-grassland round out the set. Gardening conditions therefore run from wet-tropical in the north to true desert in the far southwest, with the broad savanna middle favoring deciduous woodland trees and grasses adapted to a strong dry season.
