Zambia: 8 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Miombo is the story in Zambia. The Central Zambezian wet miombo woodlands and the dry miombo woodlands are the two largest of its eight ecoregions, joined by Zambezian mopane woodlands, Zambezian Baikiaea woodlands, Zambezian-Limpopo mixed woodlands, and the compact Itigi-Sumbu thicket, all in the tropical grassland and savanna biome. The Zambezian flooded grasslands, in the Half Protected tier, add seasonally inundated plains, and the Zambezian evergreen dry forests are a small but notable dry broadleaf holding. The character is a warm plateau climate with a strong wet-dry rhythm, woodland rather than closed forest. Plants for Zambia should ride that rhythm: deciduous trees and shrubs that flush with the rains, seasonal grasses, and wetland species only where floodplain moisture persists.
