Wallis and Futuna
Wallis and Futuna: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Wallis and Futuna fall within one ecoregion, the Fiji tropical moist forests, the tropical moist broadleaf system that covers this corner of the tropical Pacific. For these small volcanic islands that means classic humid-tropics conditions: warm temperatures with little seasonal swing, generous rainfall through the year, and rainforest as the natural cover from the coast into the interior hills. There is no dry-country vegetation to speak of. Gardening is correspondingly generous, with moisture-loving tropical food plants and rainforest ornamentals all at home; the working constraints are the ones oceanic islands impose, cyclone wind, salt exposure near the shore, and thin soils on the older coastal flats, rather than any shortage of warmth or water.
