Uganda: 8 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Uganda sits where several African savanna systems meet mountain forest. Savanna ecoregions cover most of the country: East Sudanian savanna in the north, Northern Congolian Forest-Savanna in the northwest, Northern Acacia-Commiphora bushlands and thickets in the drier northeast, and the Victoria Basin forest-savanna around the lake. Along the western rift and eastern volcanoes rise the Albertine Rift montane forests, East African montane forests, and, at the top, the East African montane moorlands and Rwenzori-Virunga montane moorlands, both Half Protected. The result is a warm, seasonally wet savanna climate over most of the country, moderated by elevation nearly everywhere, with cool, misty forest conditions in the highlands. The Victoria Basin and Albertine Rift units rate Nature Imperiled, so remnant natural forest and savanna there carry outsized value.
