Slovakia

Slovakia: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Slovakia divides neatly between plain and mountain. The Pannonian mixed forests, a temperate broadleaf and mixed forest ecoregion, cover the warm lowlands of the south and west along the Danube basin, while the Carpathian montane forests - temperate conifer forest assessed as able to reach half protected - occupy the arc of mountains that fills most of the rest of the country. The contrast is the useful fact: the Pannonian side is the warmest, driest, longest-season ground Slovakia has, suited to heat-tolerant deciduous trees and even wine-country planting, while the Carpathian zone brings shorter seasons, heavier snow, and spruce-and-beech forest conditions. Elevation, more than latitude, decides which of the two regimes a Slovak garden actually lives in.
