Singapore: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Singapore falls within one ecoregion, the Peninsular Malaysian rain forests, the tropical moist broadleaf forest system it shares with the Malay Peninsula. That places the city-state in one of the world's most consistently wet, warm climates: rain in every month, little seasonal temperature change, and a natural cover of lowland dipterocarp rainforest. In a densely built island, planting is largely urban, but the ecoregion's character still governs it - growth is continuous, drought and cold are non-issues, and the practical work is managing heat, shade, drainage, and humidity-loving pests. The everwet regime rewards the regional rainforest flora, and the remnant forest patches preserved on the island are a direct sample of what this ecoregion looks like when left to itself.
