Seychelles: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
The Seychelles' granite islands form their own ecoregion, the Granitic Seychelles forests, an Afrotropic pocket of tropical moist broadleaf forest of just 119 square miles. Ancient continental granite rather than volcanic or coral origin makes these islands biologically distinctive, and the moist forest classification captures the climate: warm, humid, and oceanic year-round, with no cold season. The Nature Could Reach Half Protected tier reflects meaningful surviving native forest, especially on higher slopes. For growers the conditions are generous, rain forest trees, palms, and understory plants all at home, with coastal sites asking for salt tolerance. The flip side of small-island endemism is responsibility: garden escapes threaten native forest quickly here, so favoring native and non-invasive species carries real weight.
