Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts and Nevis: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

In the roster, Saint Kitts and Nevis registers one ecoregion: the Bahamian-Antillean mangroves, the Neotropic mangrove system that threads the coasts of the Caribbean islands. That coastal fringe of salt-tolerant trees, growing where tide and shelter allow, is the federation's mapped share of the regional pattern, and it anchors shorelines, buffers storm surge, and nurses reef and fishery life. The setting is warm tropical maritime year-round, with a wetter second half of the year and hurricane exposure as the defining risk. For planting, the mangrove zone itself belongs to its specialists, while gardens just inland work with salt spray, wind, and seasonal drought, favoring tough coastal-tropical species. The ecoregion rates Nature Could Reach Half Protected.
