Paraguay: 5 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Two Paraguays meet at the Paraguay River. East of it, the Alto Paraná Atlantic forests bring tropical moist broadleaf forest, the country's wettest and most threatened system, carrying the Nature Imperiled tier, with the Cerrado's savanna mosaic reaching in from Brazil. West of the river stretches the Chaco: the Humid Chaco near the river giving way to the Dry Chaco's thorn woodland across the western half, with the Pantanal's flooded grasslands touching the northeast. Gardening east of the river means generous rainfall and lush subtropical growth; in the Chaco it means heat, seasonal drought, and spiny, drought-committed natives. Few countries this size divide so cleanly into a humid forest side and a dry woodland side, and plant choices should respect the line.
