Panama: 8 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Five tropical moist broadleaf forest ecoregions dominate Panama: the Chocó-Darién moist forests in the east, the Isthmian-Atlantic and Isthmian-Pacific moist forests along the two slopes of the isthmus, and the Eastern Panamanian and Talamancan montane forests on the higher ground, both of the latter already Half Protected. The exceptions are telling: the small Panamanian dry forests on the Pacific side, ranked Nature Imperiled, and two mangrove ecoregions, the South American Pacific and Southern Mesoamerican Pacific mangroves. In practice the country is wet nearly everywhere, with the Atlantic slope wettest, a drier seasonal strip on the Pacific lowlands, and cool cloud-forest conditions in the mountains. Rainforest and montane palettes carry most planting, while the Pacific dry zone rewards seasonally drought-tolerant natives.
