Palau: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Palau's islands belong to one small ecoregion, the Palau tropical moist forests, an Oceanian tropical moist broadleaf forest unit of about 178 square miles, among the most intact forest covers in Micronesia. The setting is equatorial Pacific: warm and humid the whole year, with abundant rainfall and no true dry season, on a mix of volcanic terrain and the famous uplifted limestone Rock Islands. Forest runs essentially from ridge to shore. For growers that means classic wet-tropics conditions where the humid-tropical palette thrives without irrigation; the meaningful variables are soil, since volcanic and limestone substrates behave very differently, plus salt exposure near the water. The ecoregion rates Nature Could Reach Half Protected, and keeping that forested character is Palau's clearest planting context.
