Country
Netherlands
Netherlands: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Two ecoregions reach the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The European country sits entirely within the European Atlantic mixed forests, a temperate broadleaf and mixed forest ecoregion whose maritime climate, mild winters, cool summers, rain in every month, makes it one of the most forgiving gardening environments anywhere; the limiting factors are wind, light, and drainage rather than cold or drought. The Caribbean municipalities bring in the Lesser Antillean dry forests, a small tropical dry broadleaf ecoregion where warmth is constant but a pronounced dry season favors drought-adapted trees and shrubs. In practice these are two unrelated planting worlds sharing one flag: soft oceanic temperate in Europe, seasonal tropical dry in the Antilles.
