Myanmar
Myanmar: 17 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Seventeen ecoregions stack up through Myanmar, from mangroves and coastal rain forests on the Bay of Bengal to Eastern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows in the far north. The core of the country is tropical moist broadleaf forest in many forms: Irrawaddy moist deciduous forests along the central river, montane rain forests in the Kayah-Karen and Chin Hills-Arakan Yoma ranges, and the Mizoram-Manipur-Kachin rain forests toward India. The central Irrawaddy dry forests, ranked Nature Imperiled, mark a rain-shadowed dry zone inside an otherwise monsoon-wet country. Planting conditions shift accordingly, monsoon-driven wet and dry seasons in the lowlands giving way to genuinely temperate broadleaf, conifer, and even subalpine conditions as the land climbs toward the Himalaya.
