Country
Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Liechtenstein sits wholly inside the Alps conifer and mixed forests, the temperate conifer forest ecoregion covering the Alpine arc, and in a country this steep that means elevation does the work of geography. The valley floor along the Rhine supports mixed broadleaf conditions, while the slopes climb quickly through conifer forest toward alpine meadow. The ecoregion's Nature Could Reach Half Protected tier speaks to the substantial intact forest the Alps still hold. Gardening follows the contour lines: the valley allows a full temperate palette of fruit trees, hardwoods, and perennials, while higher plots shift toward conifers, mountain shrubs, and alpine rock-garden species, with winter snow cover and a shortening season the governing constraints as you climb.
