Lebanon: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Lebanon's two ecoregions are both Mediterranean forests, woodlands and scrub, and both ranked Nature Imperiled. The coast and the western flank of Mount Lebanon lie in the Eastern Mediterranean conifer-broadleaf forests, the zone of the country's storied conifers and evergreen oaks; the higher ridges connect to the Southern Anatolian montane conifer and deciduous forests, where elevation brings a colder, snowier version of the same winter-wet, summer-dry regime. That vertical stacking is the planting story: sea-level gardens follow the classic Mediterranean calendar, growing through the mild wet winter and enduring the dry summer, while mountain sites trade summer drought stress for real frost and a shorter season. Drought-adapted natives suit the whole country; only the water and the cold change with altitude.
