Honduras: 6 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Six Neotropical ecoregions share Honduras. The Caribbean side is the wet side: Central American Atlantic moist forests inland from the Mesoamerican Gulf-Caribbean mangroves, with the open Miskito pine forests on the sandy eastern lowlands. The interior uplands carry Central American pine-oak forests - the country's largest ecoregion - and cooler Central American montane forests on the higher peaks, while the Pacific-facing south belongs to the seasonally parched Central American dry forests. That spread gives Honduras three distinct planting climates in a small space: humid tropical lowland, mild pine-oak highland, and dry tropical with a hard rainless season. Coffee-belt conditions in the highlands suit a wide temperate-meets-tropical garden palette; the dry south asks for deciduous, drought-adapted trees.
