Guinea: 5 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Guinea layers five Afrotropic ecoregions from coast to interior. Guinean mangroves line the estuaries, backed by the Western Guinean lowland forests, tropical moist broadleaf forest at the wet coastal base. Inland the Guinean forest-savanna takes over, grading into the drier West Sudanian savanna across the north, while the Guinean montane forests crown the Fouta Djallon and southeastern highlands. The pattern is a classic West African rainfall gradient: heavy wet-season rain and humid forest near the coast, a longer dry season and open savanna toward the interior. Gardeners should match plants to that gradient rather than a single national climate. The two savanna units and the lowland forests all rate Nature Imperiled, so what forest and savanna remains intact is under real pressure.
