Grenada
Grenada: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Grenada falls within a single ecoregion, the Windward Islands moist forests, a compact tropical moist broadleaf forest system of about 780 square miles shared along the Lesser Antilles chain. On this volcanic island that means a warm, humid climate with rain concentrated on the mountainous interior, where the moist-forest character is strongest, easing toward the coasts. The palette that belongs here is the wet-tropical one: broadleaf forest trees, shade-loving understory plants, and species comfortable with year-round warmth and high humidity. Interior and upland gardens can plant straight into that rainforest logic, while coastal sites add salt and wind tolerance to the brief. The ecoregion is judged able to reach half protection, and native forest plantings on a small island count toward that.
