Country
Greenland
Greenland: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Only tundra reaches Greenland. The ice-free margins split between two Nearctic ecoregions: the Kalaallit Nunaat Arctic steppe along the milder southern and western coasts, and the Kalaallit Nunaat High Arctic tundra, which is Half Protected, in the far north. Both are treeless by definition, with vegetation of dwarf shrubs, cushion plants, grasses, sedges, mosses, and lichens hugging the ground through a short, cool growing season. Gardening in Greenland works within those limits rather than against them: extremely hardy, low-growing plants, wind shelter and warm microsites doing much of the work, and quick-maturing vegetables under protection where settlements allow. The Arctic steppe side is the more forgiving of the two, which is exactly where most of the country's cultivation happens.
