Ghana: 4 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Ghana's four ecoregions stack south to north along a moisture gradient. The Eastern Guinean forests cover the humid southwest, the Guinean forest-savanna crosses the middle belt, and the West Sudanian savanna occupies the north, while the Central African mangroves fringe parts of the coast. Both savanna-belt ecoregions are in the Nature Imperiled tier, a sign of long, intense human use. The pattern for growers is straightforward: the forest zone offers year-round warmth with substantial rainfall, suited to moist-tropical trees and shade-grown crops, while the north demands savanna toughness, deciduous trees and grasses that ride out a long dry season. Coastal plantings near lagoons and estuaries can draw on the salt- and flood-tolerant mangrove edge.
