Federated States of Micronesia

Federated States of Micronesia: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

The Federated States of Micronesia falls within a single ecoregion in this roster, the Yap tropical dry forests, an Oceanian representative of the tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forest biome covering just 39 square miles. Its Nature Could Recover standing suggests native cover that is diminished but restorable. The dry-forest classification is the interesting part: even in the warm, oceanic western Pacific, these low islands carry forest adapted to a drier seasonal rhythm than a true rain forest. Island growers accordingly get year-round warmth without frost, but should not assume unlimited moisture; trees and shrubs tolerant of seasonal dry spells, thin island soils, and salt-laden wind are the dependable choices, and protecting remaining native dry forest matters, since the type is scarce everywhere.
