Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea: 3 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

All three of Equatorial Guinea's ecoregions are tropical moist broadleaf forest, which is the country in a sentence: hot, humid, and forested year-round. The mainland (Río Muni) lies in the Congolian coastal forests, the northwestern corner and the lowlands of Bioko in the Cross-Sanaga-Bioko coastal forests, and Bioko's volcanic heights in the Mount Cameroon and Bioko montane forests, a small ecoregion ranked Half Protected. Rain and warmth are the constants, so planting here is less about drought or cold than about drainage, shade, and slope. The montane zone on Bioko is the one real exception, where elevation brings cooler, cloud-wrapped conditions and a distinct highland forest character within sight of the equatorial coast.
