Denmark: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Two ecoregions share Denmark, and both are temperate broadleaf and mixed forest. Jutland and the western islands lie in the European Atlantic mixed forests, the maritime system that follows the North Sea coasts, while the eastern islands around Zealand fall in the Baltic mixed forests, a touch more continental. In practice the whole country gardens under a mild oceanic regime: modest summer heat, winters softened by the sea, wind as a constant, and a long cool growing season. Beech and oak woodland is the natural baseline, and the Atlantic-Baltic split shows mainly at the margins - slightly harder winters and drier summers toward the east. Both ecoregions are ranked Nature Could Recover, reflecting how thoroughly this old forest landscape has been converted to farmland.
