Czech Republic: 4 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
The Czech Republic is temperate forest through and through. The Central European mixed forests cover most of the country, meeting the Western European broadleaf forests along the western hills and the warmer Pannonian mixed forests in the Moravian southeast. In the far east the Carpathian montane forests bring temperate conifer conditions to the highest ground. This gives Czech gardens a consistent character: cold winters, moderate summers, reliable growing-season moisture, and a plant palette built on deciduous hardwoods, spring woodland bulbs, and cold-hardy shrubs. South Moravia, on the Pannonian side, is the warm corner where more heat-loving and drought-tolerant species succeed, while Carpathian-edge gardens lean toward conifers and mountain natives. All four ecoregions sit in recovery-capable protection tiers, so native woodland planting has room to matter.
