Chad: 7 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Chad spans one of the sharpest climate gradients on Earth, from full Sahara to wooded savanna, across seven ecoregions. The northern half lies in the South Sahara desert and East Sahara Desert, with the Tibesti-Jebel Uweinat and East Saharan montane xeric woodlands marking mountain islands where a little more moisture persists. Southward, the Sahelian Acacia savanna, at over 1.4 million square miles the largest ecoregion touching the country, gives way to the moister East Sudanian savanna, while the Lake Chad flooded savanna sustains green ground at the basin's heart. Planting conditions track latitude almost exactly: nothing grows unirrigated in the north, drought-hardy acacias and grasses define the middle, and a real rainy season supports cultivation only in the south.
