Central African Republic: 5 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
A clean south-to-north gradient organizes the Central African Republic's five ecoregions. The Northwest and Northeast Congolian lowland forests bring true tropical moist broadleaf forest to the southern margins; above them the Northern Congolian Forest-Savanna forms the broad transition belt, opening into the East Sudanian savanna across the center and north, with the Sahelian Acacia savanna brushing the far northern edge. Rainfall and canopy both thin steadily northward along that sequence. For planting, the south behaves like the humid Congo basin - evergreen, year-round growing conditions - while the savanna belts run on a strong wet-dry rhythm that favors fire-tolerant trees and tall grasses, and the Sahelian fringe demands genuine drought hardiness from anything woody.
