Brunei

Brunei: 2 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Brunei sits entirely within Borneo's great rain forest system, touching two ecoregions: the Borneo lowland rain forests, which cover most of the sultanate, and the Borneo peat swamp forests on the waterlogged coastal flats. Both are tropical moist broadleaf forest in the Indomalayan realm, which means an ever-wet equatorial climate with no real dry season and year-round heat and humidity. The lowland forests here belong to one of the tallest and most tree-rich rain forest formations on Earth, while the peat swamps are a specialized, acid, waterlogged variant. For planting, conditions favor the full humid-tropical palette without irrigation worry; the practical constraints are drainage and soil, especially on peat, rather than climate. Both ecoregions rate Nature Could Reach Half Protected.
