Bolivia: 13 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.

Landscape and climate

Bolivia stacks thirteen ecoregions across an enormous elevation gradient. The lowlands run from Southwest Amazon and Madeira-Tapajós moist forests in the north through the Chiquitano dry forests, Beni savanna, and Pantanal flooded grasslands to the thorny Dry Chaco and Cerrado savannas in the east and south. Climbing the Andes, the Bolivian and Southern Andean Yungas cloud forests give way to the dry, central, and wet puna, high montane grasslands on the Altiplano. So the country holds everything from ever-wet Amazonian heat to cold, thin-aired grassland, often within a single day's travel. Gardeners should read elevation first: frost is a fact of life on the puna and irrelevant in the lowlands. The Bolivian montane dry forests carry a Nature Imperiled rating, the most pressured slice of the inter-Andean valleys.
