Anguilla
Anguilla: one ecoregion. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
One ecoregion covers Anguilla: the Caribbean shrublands, a Neotropic member of the deserts and xeric shrublands biome in the Nature Could Recover tier. That classification tells the practical story of this low limestone island: without high ground to wring rain from the trade winds, Anguilla is markedly drier than the tall volcanic islands nearby, and its natural cover is dry shrubland rather than rain forest. Gardening here works best with that grain rather than against it. Drought-adapted shrubs, succulents, and salt-tolerant coastal species handle the thin soils, sun, and sea spray, while thirstier ornamentals need cistern water and wind shelter. The reward is a nearly frost-free, year-round growing climate for anything that can manage on limited rain.
