Albania: 4 ecoregions. Each with its climate now and toward 2050, and its conservation tier.
Landscape and climate
Four ecoregions divide Albania between mountain and Mediterranean. The interior belongs to the Balkan mixed forests and, along the northern ranges, the Dinaric Mountains mixed forests, both temperate broadleaf and mixed forest systems with real winter cold. The coastal lowlands and southern hills fall to the Illyrian deciduous forests and Pindus Mountains mixed forests, both in the Mediterranean forests, woodlands and scrub biome. That split is the country's planting logic in miniature: the coast and lower valleys follow the Mediterranean pattern of mild wet winters and dry summers, suiting drought-tolerant evergreens and summer-hardy stock, while the uplands run continental, with snow, later springs, and a flora closer to central Europe's. A short drive inland can shift the applicable climate entirely.
